Born 1943, she is a Senegalese film director who was the first Sub-Saharan African woman to direct a commercially distributed feature film. She has directed several documentary and fiction films focusing on rural life in Senegal. Her films include I am Your Mother (1979), Tesito (1989) and Mossane (1996). Among the prizes she received: An Award from Belin Festival for her film Kaddu Beykat (1976); An Award for her film Fad’jal from Berlin Festival 1979; Special Award from the 5th FESPACO 1976; Award at Carthage Film Festival (1980).
